We are always looking for new leaders for our Parish Walks and we are currently looking for a new walk coordinator. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the Parish Office Tel: 01483 277 584 | eofgparish@gmail.com

Parish Walks

We have organised a diary of Saturday walks (various times due to seasons and walker leader's preference). The schedule will be advertised here so please save it in your bookmarks. The aim of the walks is purely social. They are free and anyone is invited to join in. Please could you contact the walk leader in advance so they know numbers. That said, if you want to turn up last minute, we're sure it won't be a problem.

Summer/Autumn Schedule

10am Saturday October 23rd  | Barry’s Walk

3.5 miles | Holmbury St Mary Garage, RH5 6PD

This walk is not long (only 5.2km) but it does have some climbs, one at the beginning of the walk up to Holmbury St Mary cricket ground and the second up to the Iron Age fort on Holmbury Hill but they are not steep and should be manageable at the right pace. We'll have a leisurely break at the top so bring a flask. The good news is that it is all downhill on the way back!

Our starting point is the parking verge off Horsham Road opposite Holmbury St Mary garage. There are no stiles and most of the walk up to the hill is on wide, sandy tracks although the climb down from the hill is windy and needs some care. A walking stick is recommended.

We will have some time to linger at Holmbury Hill - the 300 degree outlook from the viewing point is stunning if there is good visibility.

On the way back we pass by The Royal Oak pub and some might wish to stop for a coffee or something stronger!

10am Saturday October 9th  | Belinda’s Walk

4.8 miles | Hurtwood Car Park 1, RH5 6NU

Belinda's walk covers two of Surrey’s beautiful hills, Holmbury and Pitch, with breathtaking views along the way.  She'll be guiding us through some glorious woodland and, although only 4-5 miles long, it has a couple of short sharp climbs after which we can take a breather!  There’s a village shop in Peaslake where we can stop for coffee half way round.

10am Saturday September 25th  | Will’s Walk

5.4 miles | meet The Parrot Car Park, RH5 5RZ

Will (pictured left above) invites you to a new walk, even to him (though he has recced it and it's a good one) from The Parrot and looping round Jayes Park and back through Mayes Green. Take in lovely views of Leith Hill, plus experience the recently restored bridleway from Fishfold Farm thru Mayes Green. It's the longest walk at 5.4 miles but it is very flat and a couple of miles is on firm tracks. We'll be back at about 12.30-1pm and if you'd like to stay for a drink and a bite to eat at the pub, you are most welcome. See you there.

Liz and Bob invite you to join them for a pleasant early autumn walk (approx. 4.3 miles – 2 ½ hours).  A circular walk starting at the car park opposite The Scarlett Arms, Walliswood (RH5 6RD). Venturing through varied countryside, including the beech & oak woodlands of Kiln Copse, (with an optional visit to St John’s Church, Okewood), via Gatton Manor, Mayes Green, Pondhead and Lowerhouse Farm, with lovely views of the North Downs. A fairly level walk with several stiles, finishing back at The Scarlett Arms – for a welcome glass! Or lunch for anyone who wishes to stay on. Please book in advance, Tel: 01306 627243.

Our walk takes you across fields, past Vann Lake and Tiphams Pond, up to Knoll Farm taking in the glorious views of the North and South Downs. Then back past Holbrook Farm, Waleys, Eversheds Farm and through the ancient Ockley Woods and WWI tree carvings. We look forward to seeing you!

5.3 miles | meet Ewhurst Club Car Park GU6 7QF

Contact Chris Dews: 07929 228 415, chrisjdews@gmail.com

Unfortnately Chris won't be cooking burgers on this walk, but he invites you to join him for a pint at the Ewhurst Club on the group's return. Chris is an avid walker and often brings Nina his little rescue dog with him. Hence this is a good walk for doggies as well as humans. The walk should take betwen 2 to 2.5 hours. The Ewhurst Club car park is opposite the Ewhurst Club on Ockley Road. Plenty of parking available.

3pm Saturday 24th July | Cat & Bella's Walk

4.5 miles | meet Ewhurst Village Car Park GU6 7PX

Contact Cat Strange: 07590 399 908, cat.strange@me.com

Cat and Bella are a mum and daughter who have explored a lot of walks during lockdown. This is one of their favourites, and they can't wait to share it with you. The walk is 4.5 miles long and will take between 1.5 to 2 hours. There is a lovely spot midwalk, just past Cobbett's Farm where the group can sit and have a drink and snack (that you've brought!) by a lovely pond. The walk is child and dog-friendly, most of it off-road or featuring quiet roads (Lower Breache Road on return).
